What’s Stopping You?
by Subomi Plumptre

I’ve been reading Luke 2 and 3. I was struck that the most significant event in the world not only happened in a manger in the small town of Bethlehem, but was first seen by shepherds. A seemingly nondescript location and people who were humble enough to believe.
The next set of folks, the Magi, were wise enough to process and accept the phenomenon. They were more interested in the idea than who owned the idea.
Fantastic Ideas in Insignificant Places
Jesus’ lineage was subtle. On His mother’s side, He was a descendant of David’s son Nathan. We don’t know much about Nathan – just a seemingly random man, minding his business and fulfilling his destiny. And Jesus’ earthly father, Joseph? A carpenter who couldn’t afford more than a pair of turtledoves for his son’s dedication.
Many are called, but few are chosen. And it is usually those who feel lucky enough to have been called in the first place. That gratitude results in corresponding action.
What’s Your Corresponding Action?
Do you really believe the things God has said about you? If so, where is the corresponding action? Or are you still stuck in strategy, doubt, or personal convenience?
It takes a certain kind of heart to believe fantastic things and to act immediately. That alone should comfort you when people don’t immediately believe your dreams.
When Anna the prophetess, saw Jesus, she told everyone around her in the temple. People knew Anna’s reputation. She had credibility. But we don’t hear much about what those people did with the information.
John the Baptist told everyone around him too. He was himself a miracle baby, and many knew his story. Some had even been baptized by him in repentance. So, they knew he was telling the truth about Jesus. But only a few of his disciples followed Jesus.
Many are called, but few are chosen. Only a limited number of people will act on great ideas and life-transforming instructions.
Others are like the man who sees his reflection in the mirror, and then walks away forgetting what he looks like.
This Message is For You
This message is for the dreamers and innovators. It’s also for those who have been called to help them. What actions have you taken?
By the way, you can start with what is in front of you – doing good. John mentions this in Luke 3. It doesn’t require a budget or a strategy session. Doing what is right can be done immediately.
So start now.
